EntertainmentMarvel’s ‘The Fantastic Four’ Lands Its Cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach

Marvel Studios has not only revealed a new July 25, 2025, release date for The Fantastic Four, but also the big news that it will star Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm.

Big Announcement on Twitter

Marvel Studios tweeted the exciting news. Showcasing a fantastic poster featuring all the characters united in a Valentine’s Day celebration.

Casting Confirmations

The rumors for the casting of The Fantastic Four have been some of the biggest floating around in the world of Marvel, and now we finally have our answers. It also confirms John Krasinski, who starred as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will not be reprising the role in this film… at least in the starring role. You never know with the multiverse!

Stellar Cast

Pascal, who is continuing to build his impressive resume after The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones, and more, was reported to be taking the role back in November 2023 and that turned out to be true.

Phase 5 Marvel Film

The Fantastic Four is part of MCU’s ongoing Phase 5 and has been in the works for some time.

Director and Script

It will see Matt Shkman as director and Josh Friedman was said to be brought on to rewrite a script first written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.

Not an Origin Story

We don’t know much more about the film, but we do know that it won’t be an origin story and will take inspiration in part from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Character Details

Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby will portray Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn is set to depict Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Ben Grimm (aka the Thing) in the superhero quartet — the first characters created for Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Release Date Swap

As part of the casting announcement, Disney has swapped the release dates of “The Fantastic Four” (now set for July 25, 2025) and “Thunderbolts” (now set for May 2, 2025).

Marvel’s Lineup

Those are two of four Marvel tentpoles currently set to open in 2025, along with “Captain America: Brave New World” in February and “Blade” in November.

Comic Book Inspirations

Per usual with Marvel, story details remain scant. Cosmic rays in space bombard the Fantastic Four during an astronaut mission, transforming them into superheroes.

Diverse Cast

One of the most in demand actors in Hollywood, Pascal will likely first shoot Season 2 of HBO’s “The Last of Us” before stretching into shape to play Richards.

Actor Highlights

Having established a strong presence in British television with impressive performances, Quinn catapulted to international fame with his portrayal of the complex and captivating Eddie Munson in Season 4 of “Stranger Things.” Meanwhile, Moss-Bachrach’s recent Emmy win for his role as Richard “Richie” Jerimovich in FX’s “The Bear” solidified his place as a critically acclaimed actor.

Kirby’s Excitement

Kirby — who first rose to prominence as Princess Margaret in “The Crown” before earning an Oscar nomination for her performance in 2020’s “Pieces of a Woman” — previously teased her desire to take on the Invisible Woman role.

Previous Film Attempts

Until now, however, the Fantastic Four had not been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie rights belonged instead to 20th Century Fox, which produced three films with the characters.

Introduction in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

The MCU got its first peek at Reed Richards in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” when John Krasinski played a multiverse variant of the character in a cameo.

Future Villain Tease

Typically, the central villain for the Fantastic Four is Victor von Doom, one of the most important and fearsome villains in the Marvel canon. But Marvel has yet to announce who the quartet will battle in this movie.

Anchor for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

By anointing the full foursome, however, Marvel Studios is securing the new anchor for the MCU, following the departures of Evans’ Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark in “Avengers: Endgame.”
