From Jim Lee at the National Weather Service office in Johnston: “Not only did Waterloo set a daily record today by reaching 80 degrees, but they broke the old record by a full ten degrees! (70, in 1983). Perhaps even more impressively, this is the earliest 80+ reading on record at Waterloo, breaking the previous record by nearly two full weeks (March 16, in both 2012 and 2015). Previous to this year the highest temperature ever recorded at Waterloo between January 1 and March 3 (today) was 71 degrees. However, this year they hit 78 (on 2/26), then 80 (on 3/3).”
