Cyclone Michaung: Kolkata witnesses light rain

BlogCyclone Michaung: Kolkata witnesses light rain

Weather officials predicted no serious impact of Cyclone Michaung in Kolkata but said the rain will continue. Kolkata has been witnessing light rain since Tuesday morning in the wake of Cyclone Michaung, with a persistent cloud cover hovering over the city.

According to weather officials, the temperature is expected to hover around the normal or slightly below as cloud cover hovers over the city.

“In the next 24 hours, it will generally be a cloudy sky. Light rain will continue. Maximum and minimum temperatures are most likely to be around 25˚C and 22˚C respectively,” said a weather official.

While the weather office predicts no serious impact of the cyclonic storm in Kolkata, the rain is set to continue,
“The rain has brought the temperature down, but it is a temporary change and not a season shift,” said weather officials predicting a delayed onset of winter.

As per the weather office, for weeks, the temperature in Kolkata has been hovering between 28˚C and 30°. The maximum temperature dropped to 26.8° Celsius on Monday. Weather officials predicted that the days will get colder.

Cyclone Michaung is set to make landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon, becoming the first cyclonic storm to cross the coast in over two years, after Cyclone Gulab in September 2021.
At least eight people have died in rain-related incidents in Chennai so far, as heavy rain triggered by the cyclone left large parts of the Tamil Nadu capital submerged.
