LaLiga Action Begins: Osasuna vs. Getafe Preview, Lineups, Where to Watch in US?

SportsLaLiga Action Begins: Osasuna vs. Getafe Preview, Lineups, Where to Watch in US?

Osasuna and Getafe Look to Bounce Back in Sunday Showdown

Both Osasuna and Getafe are gearing up for a crucial LaLiga Action clash this Sunday, aiming to recover from recent defeats in the Copa del Rey. Osasuna, currently sitting 12th in the La Liga table with 22 points, will face 10th-placed Getafe, who hold a slight advantage with 26 points from their 19 matches this season.

Osasuna’s Recent Struggles and Getafe’s Steady Performance

Osasuna, having finished seventh in LaLiga Action last season, is experiencing a drop in form during the 2023-24 campaign. Inconsistency has plagued them, with a record of six wins, four draws, and nine defeats. Their last league action was a 1-0 victory over Almeria on January 4, followed by participation in the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey.

Getafe, on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 home loss to Rayo Vallecano on January 2, with subsequent Copa del Rey matches resulting in a win against Espanyol and a defeat to Sevilla. Despite recent home losses, they bring a four-game unbeaten run on their travels into the upcoming clash.

Head-to-Head Dominance: Getafe’s Recent Success

The fixture has favored Getafe in recent years, winning four of their last five meetings, including a 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Osasuna, now solely focused on the league, aims to overcome Getafe for the first time since February 2014.

Team News and Possible Lineups

Osasuna heads into the match with a full squad, and Coach Jagoba Arrasate plans changes from their recent Copa del Rey outing. Ante Budimir, with nine goals in LaLiga Action this season, will lead the attack.

Getafe faces the absence of key players due to injury and suspension. Mauro Arambarri is out for the season, while Damian Suarez, Juanmi Latasa, and Jaime Mata will miss the clash. Mason Greenwood, initially suspended, is now available.

Possible Starting Lineups

Osasuna:

  • Herrera; Areso, Catena, D Garcia, Pena; Moncayola, Munoz, Oroz; Avila, Budimir, M Gomez

Getafe:

  • Soria; Iglesias, Dakonam, Alvarez, Rico; Greenwood, Maksimovic, Milla, O Rodriguez; Mayoral, Unal

Osasuna, with only three home league wins this season, faces a Getafe side that has drawn five times on their travels. Expect a closely contested match with both teams sharing the points.

Club History – CA Osasuna (93 years old)

Club Atlético Osasuna, or simply Osasuna, operates as a Spanish professional football club in Pamplona, Navarre. The club, founded on 24 October 1920, currently competes in La Liga and conducts its home games at the 23,516-capacity El Sadar Stadium. An elected president oversees the club, which is one of four professional La Liga clubs owned by its members. Osasuna holds the distinction of being the sole Navarrese club to have participated in La Liga.

The team’s regular home kit features a red shirt with navy blue shorts. Although Osasuna has not clinched a national trophy, it reached the Copa del Rey final in both 2005 and 2023. The club’s best league finishes were fourth in the seasons 1990–91 and 2005–06.

The club, affectionately known as “Los Rojillos” or “Gorritxoak,” meaning “The Little Reds,” has a unique distinction in La Liga with its Basque name. “Osasuna,” translating to “health” in Basque, is used in a sense of “strength” or “vigor.” Remarkably, Osasuna stands as the only team in La Liga with a Basque nomenclature.

Osasuna shares rivalries with clubs such as Real Zaragoza, Real Madrid, and several other Basque clubs, particularly Athletic Bilbao.

Osasuna boasts a productive cantera that has nurtured several successful players, aligning with the tradition of other clubs in the broader Basque region.
