Ariana Grande Dubs Her Song ‘The Boy Is Mine’ the Ultimate ‘Bad Girl Anthem’ for Fans

The people are getting what they want from Ariana Grande. One day before the release of her new album Eternal Sunshine, on Thursday, March 7, the 30-year-old pop star discussed how one of her new songs, “The Boy Is Mine,” finds her playing the part of a “bad girl” for her fans’ listening pleasure. She made this revelation while sitting down with Zane Lowe for an Apple Music 1 interview that was posted.

“It’s kind of like, ‘I’ll play the bad girl, here’s your bad girl anthem,'” Grande said to Lowe, adding that “The Boy Is Mine” is built up for listeners by another song, “True Story.”

“The song can be found on the pop singer’s upcoming album, Eternal Sunshine, which drops on March 8.”

The Grammy winner also discussed the song’s evident reference to Brandy and Monica’s 1998 hit song of the same name, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks. “I adore that tune,” Grande exclaimed. “I’ve always desired to give that song a new, creative interpretation.”

Then she said, “I kind of thought, ‘This is a really bad idea, but there is a large group of my fans that really, they do love a bad girl anthem,'” “And it’s kind of like an upgraded version of that here.”

The former member of Victorious also revealed that “The Boy Is Mine” will include stolen elements of “Fantasize,” an unreleased song that leaked on TikTok last year and quickly became viral. Regarding the revised ’90s-inspired song, she had earlier admitted to Zach Sang, “I kind of gave them Ariana’s version of that on the album.” “They’ve changed drastically since then. Thus, even though you’ve heard of them—since [someone] pilfered them—they’ve changed significantly since then.

Before Eternal Sunshine, Grande only put out one single, “Yes, And?,” which became her ninth career No. 1 on the Hot 100 in January. You might also claim that, with lines like “Your business is yours and mine is mine/ Why do you care so much whose d-ck I ride,” she somewhat adopts the persona of the “bad girl” on that song.
