In the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament on Monday, No. 14 Gonzaga defeated Pacific 72-61, led by a double-double from Yvonne Ejim and 20 points and 12 rebounds from Eliza Hollingsworth. This was the Bulldogs’ 24th consecutive victory.
For Gonzaga (30-2), which played its closest game against a league opponent this season, Ejim finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Kaylynne Truong scored 13 points with seven assists, and Brynna Maxwell contributed 17 points.
The Tuesday championship game will pit the Zags against the victor of Portland-Santa Clara.
On February 17, the Tigers lost 91-78 to the Bulldogs in what was their closest regular-season matchup. Paradoxically, Gonzaga defeated Pacific 104-39 two weeks prior, recording its biggest-ever victory over a Division I opponent. The Zags won 30.7 points per game against conference opponents.
The fifth-seeded Tigers (18-14) were led by Anaya James with 23 points and Liz Smith with 12.
Gonzaga never let up after scoring the first six points of the contest. The first quarter ended with a lead of 18–15.
With a Maxwell 3 to start the second quarter, the Bulldogs scored nine points in a hurry. Eliza Hollingsworth scored 10 points during the quarter, while Maxwell’s last-second 3-pointer put the halftime score 38–25.
Just after the third quarter was halfway over, the margin had grown to 20, but Pacific responded with nine straight points to cut it to 11. Truong then made a three-pointer in the final seconds to make the score 57-43.
The lead quickly grew to 70-43 after five different players scored baskets and Hollingsworth added a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter. Pacific scored the next twelve points, going on an 18-2 run to end the game.
