William Regal, the former general manager of WWE NXT, unexpectedly returned to WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, following a nearly two-year hiatus. But according to recent events, Regal might not appear frequently on television shows in the future.
“For those who were wondering, as of the February 27th taping, there are no plans to feature William Regal on screen in a full-time role in the near future,” said Corey Brennan of Fightful Select in response to Regal’s comeback, which was more of a cameo.
Most people agree that one of the greatest British wrestlers of all time is William Regal. His career in the WWE was remarkable, spanning from mid-1990s to late 2000s as an in-ring fighter to jobs such as General Manager of WWE NXT in 2012. In this function, he was essential to the company’s talent development.
In March 2022, Regal took a brief leave of absence from WWE to oversee the Blackpool Combat Club in the rival company, AEW. Nevertheless, his time there was brief because in December of the same year, he left AEW.
After leaving AEW, Regal re-signed with WWE, however he had to wait a year to appear on WWE television programming because of his AEW contract commitments. Finally, this eagerly anticipated return happened recently on NXT.
Although fans were thrilled to see Regal return to NXT, it appears that his appearances may only be temporary as there are currently no plans for a full-time position on TV. However, his depth of knowledge and experience will surely remain helpful behind the scenes in WWE’s talent development initiatives.
