Isaiah Thomas is joining the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz’s G League franchise, according to Shams Charania.
The Charlotte Hornets were Thomas’ most recent team, and during his 17 games there in 2022, he hit 39% from three and 43% from the field. The small but quick guard is trying to make his way back into the league, as Charania claims. Given that the Jazz are dealing with some injuries, this could be possible, but there will also be competition among the Stars’ roster, where the impressive Jason Preston has put up eye-popping numbers in his brief tenure.
It’s also intriguing that Thomas would be associated with the Jazz because Danny Ainge is credited with trading him to them after Thomas helped the Celtics win big in 2016 while playing through an injury. Maybe now that they’ve moved on, Thomas is looking for a way to join the league. With just 20 games remaining, the Jazz are at a crossroads as a club and will need to decide in the summer what kind of direction they want to go.

In addition to resolving the Lauri Markkanen dilemma, they must also determine whether to pursue a full youth movement in the hopes of securing a top pick in the highly anticipated 2025 draft or make trades or additions in order to increase their winning percentage in the upcoming campaign. Thomas might be one of the team’s veterans who can mentor new players if the Jazz decide to pursue a youth movement. It’s an intriguing signing that will be fascinating to observe, whatever transpires.
