SportsLauri Markkanen Sidelined for Wizards vs. Jazz Matchup

SALT LAKE CITY: Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen was declared out of Utah’s matchup with the Washington Wizards due to an injury.

Lauri Markkanen lands on injury report

On Monday, March 4, the Jazz will play the Wizards at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Markkanen’s right quadriceps injury prevented him from playing for the Jazz on Sunday, March 3. On March 2, during the team’s 126-120 loss to the Miami Heat, the forward looked to have hurt his leg.

Markkanen scored 25 points in the game, going 5-15 overall, including 4-9 from three-point range. In 41 minutes, the Arizona product also contributed four rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block.

Markkanen is scoring 23.1 points a night on 48.3 percent shooting so far this season. In 32.9 minutes per game, he also averages 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.5 blocks, and 0.9 steals. 51 games have seen him play this season.

The Jazz will also be without Otto Porter Jr. (not with the club) and Walker Kessler (right foot strain) in addition to Markkannen. Kessler will have missed two games in a row.

Preview: Wizards vs. Jazz

The Jazz’s record slipped to 27-34 after their loss against the Heat, and their losing run now stands at three games. Since defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 6, Utah has only won once.

Luckily for the Jazz, following a dismal February, the humble Wizards will be visiting Salt Lake City on a 14-game losing streak. Washington is 9-51 on the season and has not won since January 29. Still, Washington has triumphed six times away from home. Former University of Utah standout Kyle Kuzma currently leads the Wizards with an average of 22.2 points per game.
